"Classic Smallville PVC set from DC Comics" 2003-06-04

Contrary to what at least one review indicates this is based on the DC COMICS "Superboy" magazine from the 50's and 60's NOT anything from competitor Marvel Comics. Considering the small scale the figures likenesses are accurate to their comic book source. I especiallly like Krypto, the Super Dog. It is a charming collectible for fans who remember the classic comic book Superboy from the 50's and 60's, but could possibly disappoint fans of the current "Smallville" TV show based on the same source material.

 "The Real Smallville" 2002-12-06
By Michael Kaiser (Gilroy, CA United States)
Despite what reviewer Lawrance thinks, Lex Luthor was part the of the Superboy mythos. In fact, Superboy inadvertently caused the loss of Lex's hair, which is why Lex hated Superboy/man in the first place. (And yes, he and Clark were best friends before Lex took the mad scientist route.) Anyway, just wanted to point that out if any were deterred from buying this excellent PVC set because of Lex's inclusion. There isn't a lot of Superboy stuff out there, particularly pre-Crisis Superboy stuff, and I highly recommend picking up this set. Also, keep your eyes peeled for the upcoming SUPERBOY ARCHIVES book, which will reprint old-school Superboy stories (as soon as it comes out).

""Smallville" figures as in "Superboy" comics not as in WB" 2002-10-07
By Lawrance M. Bernabo (The Zenith City, Duluth, Minnesota)
While the "Smallville PVC Set" showed up on shelves about the same time as the "Smallville" television series debuted on the WB, but these seven figures harken back to the old "Superboy" comics. You get both young Clark Kent and Superboy, Ma and Pa Kent, the lovely Lana Lang, Krypto the superdog, and Lex Luthor with a lead box of kryptonite (in what must have been another concession to the new show because Lex was not part of the comic, although young Lex is part of the series). These figures range in height from 2.5" (Krypto) to 4.375" (Superboy!) and are packaged in a 4-color window box. The Superboy figure is pretty good and Ma Kent's pie is a nice touch, but the Lex figure does not strike me as looking right and Lana sort of looks like something from an Archie comic. Kristin Kreuk has nothing to worry about with this figure (and the TV "Smallville" figures are coming out sometime this season for those who want to hold out for the "real" things).

 "Smallville - the comic" 2002-07-01
By Kathleen Pearlman (Verona, NJ United States)
This is the comic book version of Smallville - pre-TV. Ma and Pa Kent are a lot older than their television versions and Lana Lang, God bless her, has the red hair and the average teenage look she always had in comics. If you loved the Superboy comics of the 60s, you'll love this set.
